Preface
Here at the Qualm we’re anti-war, we’d love to see a future world where economics and borders didn’t regress us back, where profit and the removal of human rights, personal liberties and freedoms isn’t being constantly being challenged by the few. (This is propaganda).
War… what is it good for?
Absolutely Nothing…. Except for Money, Land and Political Power.
War is about the gain of an interest through the use of force, whether it’s about strategic resources, the redrawing of maps, ideological differences, religious or for revenge. Any number of reasons to have humans justify their bloodshed, they will try. But War is unjust, it’s unfair and it has no place in a future society. A human made hell-hole, where the actions and words of the ruling few, will dictate the lives of the many. War isn’t black and white, good versus evil, both sides will have reasons for the escalations, we are but cogs in a bigger wheel.
Writing the Narrative
In the 21st century it’s about whoever controls the optics, the stream of information that can be used to win or to justify actions in a war. If one can assume that mostly everyone is online, most hours of the day, wouldn’t it make sense to try and control the sources of information to skew into a parties interest, (like China) maybe by restricting the information being received and transmitted from an area? To purposely allow for misinformation to spread to further justify one’s actions? To forcefully change the narrative to whom’s ever favour? The power and the immediate danger to be able to rapidly spread information in this always online world is truly eye opening.
Whoever wins a war gets to write it’s narrative, create and cast its own heroes and villains, to glorify ones deeds but mostly and to justify their actions. Surely whoever the government and the mainstream media deem the winners, are always the good guys right?
Propaganda is the war
Propaganda is making a case for the goal, the spreading of ideas, information or rumour & slander, in and for the case of an institution or persons, a social cause or movement. It is the psychological warfare conducted on every front by people willing to further their own ends.
Here is a good YouTube Video On the topic:
The Main takeaway here is that propaganda is merely a tool, a vehicle for change, and can be used for good and evil depending on whose hands and heads it rests in. That the case can be made that the modern civilian should start being more aware and critical of what classifies as propaganda.
The News is always on
In the 21st century what we call ‘Modern Warfare’ is taking place all around us. it’s the constant stream of information, advertisements and news all the time. The same news network giants of the past that were profiting from the live coverage of the events, is now replaced with time spent on these major social media platforms talking, posting and engaging about these events. There’s money in web traffic so what’s that about?
What’s different about war in the information age is the use and the prevalence of ‘fake media’. So media literacy and verifying sources has become important tools to start to decipher the jumbled mess of a situation. Morally bankrupt sycophants who profit from the fear mongering and propaganda of war, are reporting on it using non-fact checked videos of verified sources. People can post anonymously online and their word can be taken as fact by people without doing the slightest bit of research.
Humans Morbid Curiosity and Nature
I think humans have a morbid curiosity towards death and violence, almost like Stockholm syndrome towards their own mortality. So I feel like War has become a strange spectator sport in the western world. With the live coverage and around the clock feeds, showcasing and highlighting the very worst of humanity, sprinkled with advertisements for fried chicken and quick loans, so many people are getting their brains melted into a mouthpiece for whatever biases and narratives are currently being shown to them. People need to have the ability to critically think.
Here’s a Vsauce video on the topic:
Profiteering of war
No matter what the real losers of the war are the lives caught up in the fray. The mothers without sons, the brothers that never come back, it’s the grimmest reality for some. But for others, they see it as a way to make large capital gains, clearly through the exploitation and lives of others.
Just some of the institutions that profit from war and the propaganda
- The Media Complex
- The weapon manufacturers
- The Medical supplies
- The Private militaries
- Government contracts and lobbying
